On the Importance of Classification Standards in Shipbuilding and Offshore Projects
In the course of shipbuilding or offshore projects, it is essential that every department—Sales, Design, Procurement, and Quality—observe the applicable Classification Society standards.
These standards govern matters not only of cost and delivery, but also the final integrity of construction itself.
To aid in the selection of proper materials, I recommend consulting the Lloyd’s Register (LR) Classification Material Application Table provided below.
This table summarizes the requirements of LR Rules, Part 5, Chapter 12.
Furthermore, you will find separate listings concerning materials applicable to LNG and LPG liquid gas systems. These, too, should be reviewed with diligence and discernment.
As in all good workmanship, adherence to proper standards is not merely compliance—it is the mark of prudence and excellence.
